Purpose of the Pool:
In 2007, the North Carolina General Assembly passed Session Law 2007-0532 which created the North Carolina Health Insurance Risk Pool (NCHIRP). The mission of the NCHIRP is to provide affordable health insurance coverage for North Carolinians who face high insurance premiums because of their health. NCHIRP is scheduled to begin offering coverage on 1 January 2009.
